Program Info

X-Skills Program Information

X-Skills is a structured one-to-one coaching program developed by Tutor Doctor to address the needs of a growing market of students seeking to improve the peripheral skills associated with academic performance, such as organization, study habits, and goal setting. The X-Skills program can be sold as a supplement to traditional academic tutoring or as a standalone program for students looking to accelerate their executive functioning skill set in service of achieving their short and long-term goals.

Foundational 12-Week Program

The Foundational 12-Week program is the starting point for students to help them develop the needed skills and habits.

During the first one to two weeks students complete their first X-Skills scorecard, go through the e-learning course material, and meet with their coach to identify their goals and get their system set up to organize their weekly tasks.

Then students move into what we call Active Coaching, meeting with their coach twice a week to plan the following week and also to check in on how their plan is going.

Measuring Progress: X-Skills Scorecard

The X-Skills Scorecard is an anecdotal assessment completed by a student and their parent/guardian before beginning coaching, after 6 weeks of coaching, and after their X-Skills foundational program is complete. The results of the Scorecard are used to identify students’ areas of strength and challenge, assess their progress and confidence, and to inform their next steps for coaching.

After completing the midpoint and final X-Skills Scorecards, parents receive a custom X-Skills Scorecard Report for their student. This report outlines the student’s progress, coach feedback, next steps, and other notable learnings from the student’s Scorecards.

Student E-Learning Course

To build motivation and drive effort, students need to understand what exactly they are doing and why it's worth doing it. The X-Skills Student Course provides students with the supporting knowledge and understanding of the X-Skills foundational concepts and helps them to uncover their “why.”

Students are given access to the course when they enroll in X-Skills and their coach supports them with completing the 4 modules in Step 1 of the X-Skills program. Students retain access to the X-Skills Student Course for 6 months and can refer back to it at any time.

Student Stories

Our students have found much success after enrolling in the X-Skills program. There are many types of students who can benefit from the program including:

Students who have trouble self-directing their learning, like Oliver, an overwhelmed 14-year-old looking for balance in his schedule. He learned how to reach his full potential by working with his coach to switch his strategies and use an organized time management system.

Students who need to improve their time management skills, like Neil, an intelligent grade 12 student. He learned how to leave the distractions behind and use his time wisely by creating an organized plan of action and developing a clear routine with the help of his coach. The X-Skills Program helped him get accepted into his top choice university program!

Students who have big dreams and aspirations, like Ava, a talented 13-year-old gymnast with visions of making it to the Olympics. She needed someone to encourage her to reach for the sky, and effectively help her prioritize her obligations while still making time for being a kid.
